Harper’s BAZZAR : Winter Sports Issue

Celebrating 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics Game, Harper’s BAZZAR invited Janus Leong, Diamonster, Jazzy Yuan to create cover illustrations for their latest issue.

Artists: Janus Leong, Diamonster, Jazzy Yuan. Client: Harper’s BAZZAR Project Date: 2022

Diamonster: Curling has been described as the "chess" of ice. Curling tests the player's physical and mental strength and the wisdom of trade-offs, and time flies between movements. The ice brushes held by the players reminded me of Cinderella with her broom. Not only does she move around the kitchen, but she can also have her little hobby.

Jazzy: This cover for Bazaar combines the classic movements of freestyle skiing with beautiful fashion to frame a composition that can be both dynamic and formal. I like regular and connected lines to make up the image, so here I chose a lot of circles and straight lines to cut and compose the illustration to show the dynamic relationship. Also, as there is a lot of aerial action in this project, I used the sky as the main background, combined with a funky look with a silver jacket to bring the figures in the picture into focus at once.

Janus:When I drew this illustration I wanted to incorporate fashion into a sporting event. Leaving traditional concepts behind, I combined exaggerated elements with realistic sports equipment, such as tall boots with colored ice skates, to create a slightly absurd but fun world of sport.
